Why do Assisi’s projects focus on women?
|
Women are the most vulnerable people in poor Indian communities. When a husband dies or is unable to earn a wage, women are left to rely on the goodwill of relatives or others to provide sustenance for their families.
The majority of participants in our programs are women. Women have proven to be very effective agents of change because they:
- Quickly convert the skills and opportunities offered by Assisi into action that improves their lives.
- Work cooperatively with one another as members of Self Help Groups.
- Are willing to collectively face challenges and are prepared to take measured risks.
- Transfer their knowledge and enthusiasm within their families and local communities.
